Well, EA’s most popular sports franchise is preparing to release their next iteration of Madden, Madden NFL 16. The August 25, 2015 release date has been announced and pre-orders are open.
The fans have voted on the new cover athlete, Odell Beckham Jr, making him the youngest player to grace the cover of a Madden Game.
The feature set for NFL 16 looks a bit skimpy so far, and I don’t think most fans of the franchise are expecting too many innovations if the past has set any precedent. This year’s slogan is “Be the Playmaker” focusing on qb evasion and pass control to your wide receivers. This allows you to throw away from the defenders even more accurately by steering the ball while in flight to the back shoulder, low to the ground, or hit the receiver in stride. The defender will also have some new animations to try to break up the pass or go for the pick.
Playmaker Broadcast will be introduced for this year’s Madden. This broadcast feature features new player spotlights, dynamic goals and achievements, and new on-field cameras bringing new closer angles to the viewing experience than ever before.
Franchise will make a return (redone as GM mode) as well as the EA money machine Madden Ultimate Team (MUT) mode. Yes that’s right – you will once again build your own dream team from all available players (and some legends), bringing them into a special MUT head to head ladder. MUT is pretty well developed as it gets daily updates and weekly events some of which tie into the real NFL awarding you with in game currency used to collect the players you want. Last years version featured a more streamlined contracts system than the year prior, better pacing on updates and events, and more challenges. There’s still some serious room for improvement though as Head to Head rewards fall short of playing shorter and easier CPU games. You also can’t play with a friend on your own MUT team. Most events are generally geared for those who are spending real world currency on the game as well. Still Madden Ultimate Team mode breathes a lot of life into a fairly polished football game.
As of today you can now pre-order Madden NFL 16 and get 10 Ultimate Team Pro Packs and 1 Playmaker Pack, free with the standard addition.
EA will release more features to the public as August 25th draws near. Stay tuned for more as they are revealed.
